Poor visibility of an open platform can lead to traffic accidents where pedestrians, cyclists, or other road users may get injured or even lose their lives. These accidents can have serious consequences for both the victims and their families and can also lead to legal and financial implications for the owner of the vehicle with the platform. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that tail lifts are clearly visible to prevent such tragic incidents.

Tail lift flags

As the platform falls outside the standard dimensions of the vehicle, it is mandatory to have a warning system. One option for this is reflective flags for tail lifts. The requirements for these flags vary by country.

Personalized tail lift flags

At Haco Tail Lift Parts, we offer the option to order personalized tail lift flags. These flags are equipped with reflective tape and can also be printed with your logo or a custom image of your choice.

Approved for the German Market

In Germany, tail lift flags are mandatory in red/white and fully reflective. Haco Tail Lift Parts offers tail lift flags that comply with German standards. These flags have dimensions of 405 mm length and 255 mm width. They consist of multiple layers of PVC, with the base being reflective. Our flags are produced according to strict German requirements (TÜV) and carry the original K1215 certification, as prescribed in StVZO § 53b Abs. 5. These flags are available at Haco Tail Lift Parts and are suitable for use throughout Europe, except in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. For example, in Switzerland, tail lift flags must be yellow with black stripes.

Tail lift lighting

In the rest of Europe, it is not yet mandatory to mount both a tail lift flag and platform lighting on the tail lift, as in Germany. When the platform is in the horizontal position, the tail lift lighting on the platform flashes. This increases visibility compared to tail lift flags, which are not visible on the side of the tail lift in the dark. Haco offers battery-operated tail lift lighting in the range, so you can easily install it without wiring.

In Germany, tail lift lighting must meet specific requirements, read the requirements below:

• Tail lift lighting must be mounted on both sides of the tail lift.
• The lighting must flash during the lifting and lowering of the tail lift.
• If it is not possible to place lighting on both sides, at least one portable lamp must be clearly visible during the lifting and lowering of the platform to warn other road users.
