LPK Inspection

Tail Lift periodic inspection (LPK)

Annual inspection

In the Netherlands, the tail lift must be inspected at least once a year. This can be done through the LPK Certification (Tail Lift Periodic Inspection). Thanks to this certification, the safety of your tail lift is better ensured. For expert LPK inspections, you can turn to companies affiliated with the LPK certification, and you can also inquire about this per country when your tail lift needs to be inspected.

When a tail lift bears an LPK certicfication, it means the following:
  • The tail lift is inspected annually.
  • The inspection is carried out by a specially trained inspector.
  • The tail lift meets all the requirements listed in the LPK checklist.

LPK inspection checklist

Using a checklist, the lift is checked on a fixed number of points. Any defects can thus be identified and rectified, thereby limiting unsafe situations due to defects in the lift. After the inspection, the tail lift is tested to the maximum. The load and overload test is intended to determine whether the lift can lift the correct weight and cannot unintentionally sink and/or be overloaded. This is what happens during an LPK inspection:

  • The operation is checked; safety above all
  • The hoses are checked; leaking is an environmental offense
  • A weight test is carried out for load testing
  • Inspection by a certified authority; BMWT certification

When the tail lift inspection is successfully completed, you will receive the following inspection certificates:
  • A sticker with an individual inspection number for the tail lift;
  • A checklist with all the inspection points of the tail lift inspection, with the unique number matching the sticker;
  • Registration of the tail lift inspection in the maintenance book of the tail lift.

The inspection certificates must be presented in case of a check. Furthermore, the inspection certificates are important documents for the insurance company. Therefore, store the inspection certificates carefully.
